Lunch-time Adventure

I have to say the other language assistants and I have gotten pretty good at figuring out how to fill up our 2-hour lunch breaks every day; well, technically just our Thursdays. Mondays I have no school, Tuesdays I meet with my intercambio to practice Spanish, Wednesdays I get off early (at lunch time) and Fridays we go out to eat with the teachers.

So, Thursday is now officially dubbed our foodie day. And oh what a great day this is.

This week, we decided to venture a few metro stops over to place called Bar Docamar. This isn't just any old bar, however. Hidden behind a facade of elderly Spanish people playing chess, grafitti and a dicey-looking plaza, is the heart of Spanish patatas bravas. Normal patatas bravas are fried white potatoes served with a sauce such as a spicy tomato sauce or alioli. But this restaraunt has serious street-cred for its patatas bravas. The brava sauce served with the potatoes are so good that they sell the sauce in separate containers on the side to take home.

After we finished complaining about how full we were because we ate too much, we decided to order the tortilla because it just looked that good. Tortilla (which is just more potatoes), is found on every menu in Spain. But I would go as far to say that this tortilla may be the best I've ever had.

All of this topped off with white wine and complementary olives and bread=DANGER.

Finding this hole-in-the-wall gloriful bar was probably the worst thing that could ever happen to my waste line.
