A Day in History

This day, the 13th of December, will forever go down in history. Well, at least until the next group of Santa Claueses break the world record.

But for me, this is a day for the books and always will be. It's the day I woke up as a normal citizen and finished as a Santa Claus: a world-record breaking, white-bearded, red-pants sagging Santa Claus.

Okay in all seriousness, Madrid did break a Guinness World Record today, and it was an experience I'll never forget. The record is the most number of people dressed as Santa Claus to unite/run together. Therfore this led to exactly 5,173 Santa Clauses running through the streets of Madrid today in the Carrera de Papa Noel (Santa Claus Marathon), a 5k. The previous record was 4,962, so it succeeded in breaking the record! And dressed in a ridiculous Santa outfit or not, I'm pretty excited that I had a part in making that happen.

When we signed up for the race, we recieved our felted Santa costume: pants, a jacket, belt and even the mustache and beard. I was holding up my pants the entire race and the beard didn't make the whole breathing part too easy, but hey I crossed the finish line!

The marathon from the start to finish was super fun. It was very laid-back and such a fun atmosphere, beginning and ending with a big dance party. Marathon or not, I'd do it again and again. Plus, I think I looked pretty damn good as a Santa Claus, right?
