Spanish Posse & Pirates

You almost couldn't spot me right? I know, because I blend in so well with this cool group of Spanish people.
But yet, there I am in the lower right; at a birthday dinner for Rebeca (the teacher I work with and now someone I consider a good friend). Rebeca and her twin, Carlota turned 24 last week and Rebeca was kind enough to invite me to her birthday dinner with all of her close friends and then to a club after.
I have to admit I was pretty nervous (and honestly at the beginning a little reluctant) to go because I knew I was the only American, or English-speaking person, invited. I have the communication skills, but surrounded by that many people who are all close friends swapping stories in casual Spanish lingo?! What if I turned out to be that awkward American girl sitting in the corner who couldn't even get a word in?
My nerves left immediatley as I walked through the restaraunt door, however. Everyone was so welcoming and patient with me if I ever stumbled a little in my Spanish. I bonded with the girls over the amazing food at the restaraunt and cute boys at the club and I made friends with a couple of the guys who were interested in the United States and why I've come to Spain.
The club itself was also very fun! When I first walked into El Doblón I coudn't seem to shake its cheesiness: pirate-themed EVERYTHING--whoever designed the set for Pirates of the Carribean was hired to decorate this club. Even the waiters were wearing pirate costumes and big chandeliers were swinging from above to make it seem like we were on an actual rocking ship (which I have to admit was kind of cool). After a while though I actually realized how fun it was! I mean you have to give them credit: it's a unique idea. I've already told my roommates I want to take them back!
All in all, if you're ever in doubt to go an event that you were invited to with all Spanish people, GO. Spaniards are all about relationships, so they really appreciate you coming in the first place; it's a great way to practice your Spanish; and you're making new friends! Who can ask for more?
